Canon PIXMA TS8320 Printer Review, Pros & Cons

Canon has been renowned as one of the best printer manufacturers around the globe. Canon PIXMA that focuses on home environment printer becomes the most favorite option, thanks to its practicality, durability, and ease of use. Among the big family of Canon PIXMA, the TS series has just launched three new products, one of which is Canon PIXMA TS8320.

TS8320 is the successor of TS8220 which is built in a similar design, color choices, and size. This product is launched together with two other products, the TS6320 and TS5320. Being the only one that comes with a CD/DVD printing, TS8320 is considered more prominent than the other two. Here, I am about to reveal anything you need to know about Canon PIXMA TS8320.

Body and Features

PIXMA TS8320 is a wireless inkjet printer that is professionally designed for home environment. The TS8320 is available in three different colors: white, black, and red. It comes in the same dimension as its predecessor, the TS8320 of 5.6 x 14.7 x 12.6 inches with 14.6 pounds of weight. Thanks to the small size that it does not take much space of your desk.

The consumer-grade all in one photo printer is excellent for moderate and home-office use. It supports sophisticated technology like other All-in-One printers nowadays. The printer supports voice activation through Google’s Assistant or Alexa from Amazon from your smartphone. Interestingly, the product also supports If This Then That (IFTTT) scripting technology.

When it comes to paper handling, the TS8320 is able to accommodate up to 200 sheets. These sheets are split between the 100-sheet drawer and 100-sheet tray from the back. Up to 20 sheets of photo paper can be accommodated by the rear tray of this printer. You can also take benefits from a tray above the main tray for printing labels on optical discs.

Software and Connectivity

I am going to move to the software and connectivity provided by the TS8320. The standard connectivity of this printer includes Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy, Wi-Fi, and USB 2.0 to connect to a single PC. Besides, the software bundle also offers several programs and utilities that include Scan Utility which offers a good scanner interface, Scan Utility Lite which is available for Mac only, and Easy-PhotoPrint Editor to help you edit and enhance photos.

The software also includes My Printer which is specifically designed for Windows to monitor and configure the printer, Network Tool to help monitor and configure the network, as well as Quick Menu that display the shortcut icons to help you access most of the features.

I believe that Canon wants you to get the best of this printer, thus the manufacturer provides Easy-PhotoPrint Editor mobile app. This application enables you to make enhancements and corrections to the photos taken from your mobile device. Canon PIXMA TS8320 Ink Cartridge

The TS series launched three new products, including TS5320, TS6320, and TS8320. While the TS5320 only has 2 ink cartridge, the TS6320 has 5 ink cartridges, the TS8320 is more prominent as it offers 6 different ink cartridges.

Aside from the standard ink cartridges of CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black), the TS8320 is equipped with two more ink cartridges of photo-blue and pigment-black. The presence of additional ink cartridges can boost its printing quality. The pigment black cartridge is able to darken texts, at the same time makes the black area of your photos look deeper.

Meanwhile, the photo-blue cartridge is able to eliminate graininess. As a result, you will have an improved graphic definition. It is also worth mentioning this additional ink cartridge can increase the color range of your photos.

When you combine the printer with Canon photo paper, you will get long-lasting photos with extra high quality. Thanks to the ChromaLife100 system that utilizes FINE print head technology to provide more vibrant prints. In addition, Canon boasts that your photos can stay up to 100 years when you are using the technology.

Canon PIXMA TS8320 comes with 5,632 color nozzles plus 1204 pigment black nozzles. This means the TS8320 has up to 6836 nozzles that offer a print resolution up to 4800 x 1200 dpi. The larger the number of nozzles, the more quality the photos.

Printer Speed

Speed is an important aspect of a printer. What you are printing influences the speed, in which black and white goes faster than photo or color prints. When I tried printing with the TS8320, I found that this printer is able to print up to 15 pages per minute for black and white. But when I printed color pages, the speed reduced to 10ppm.

For another test, a 4×6 inch colorful and detailed photo could be printed at 29 seconds. This speed was slightly faster from other All-in-One printers. The test showed that the TS8320 is slightly faster than the TS8220 and TS9120 when printing color documents. But this printer is slightly slower than the XP-7100. Most consumer-grade photo printers can run between 30 and 60 seconds for snapshot printing.

Photo Printing Quality

Canon PIXMA has been long known as a consumer-grade photo printer that offers high-quality printing, both in text and graphics. It seems like Canon wants to hold up the tradition by releasing the TS8320 with six ink cartridges. This printer is able to print highly legible and well-shaped text, at the same time no streaks or bands are noticeable when printing graphics.

The TS8320 can give you brilliant and accurate gradients and colors. Being a photo printer, I dare to say that Canon PIXMA TS8320 is a great printer to produce vibrant colors. Based on my test with a 4×6 inch and 8×10 inch borderless photograph, I was stunned by the impressive detail it gave to me. This printer can only be rivaled by other 5- and 6-ink Canon PIXMAs.

The printer’s high performance is also visible when you use it for scanning and copying. There are slight differences in these functionalities. For instance, you can enjoy the 2-on-1 copy, document copy, auto exposure, and fit-to-page features. The machine also lets you copy with reduction/enlargement by 25% to 400%, two-sided copy, and 4-on-1 copy.

But it doesn’t stop there. I’m sure enough you will enjoy the other features of Canon PIXMA such as photo reprint, disklabel copying, photo fade restoration, and preset copy ratios. These features cannot be found in other T series that come together with the TS8320.

Printing Cost

Despite its high-quality printing and wide array of features, Canon PIXMA TS8320 is considered expensive to use. As with other consumer-grade photo printers, the cost you will have to pay per page should be a consideration before purchasing this product.

The cost you have to pay depends on what you are printing. For black and white pages, you may need to pay around 4 to 6 cents while it takes around 15 to 17 cents for color printing. If you want to print photograph with full ink coverage, you will need to cost more money. But it is necessary to know that it happens not only in PIXMAs. Other printer products such as Epson also cost you a similar rate.

TS8320 Pros and Cons

According to my experience, I can reveal a number of pros and cons to complete this review. Being a consumer-grade photo printer, the TS8320 is considered a high-quality product with many features and advantages. But this does not automatically free the printer from pros. There are a few drawbacks that should be taken into account before bringing it home.

I consider Canon has been very generous by giving the TS8320 a lot of options for connectivity, such as Bluetooth Low Energy, Wi-Fi, USB, memory card slot, and PictBridge. You can also connect the printer with a mobile device for a better printing experience.

• Support voice-activation

As with other consumers All in One printers today, the TS8320 is equipped with voice activation system. This makes the printer compatible with smart home devices. From your smartphone, you can control the printer using Google’s Assistant or Microsoft’s Cortana.

• Multipurpose tray

You can get benefits from the multipurpose tray offered by the TS8320. The additional tray above the main one can be used to print labels on the discs. The multipurpose tray also allows you to print fingernail stickers as well as magnetic photo papers.

• Absences of the automatic document feeder

This TS series is not equipped with an automatic document feeder that helps you scan or copy documents with multiple pages. Canon only gives this feature to the TS9520.

• High cost

As with other consumer-grade photo printing, the TS8320 is considered expensive. But compared with the quality, the printer is worth your money.
